To the editor:
I would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank the police and fire departments of Salt Lake City for the outstanding work they performed the morning of May 15 at the bookstore fire in Sugarhouse.Since I live in the vicinity of the bookstore, I am certain that without the quick response of the fire department I could have also suffered severe property damage. The first thing they did on arrival was to take steps to protect the surrounding properties.
Our sympathies go out to the owners of Intermountain Book Store and Design Direction on their loss. They will be missed in the area.
Because we have no way of knowing when or where something of this nature will happen, I would like to ask Mayor Corradini not to jeopardize the safety and lives of the people of Salt Lake by making any cuts in these two departments.
