"Irish" Pat Lawlor admitted that John David Jackson "outclassed" him in their WBO junior middleweight title fight.
Jackson defended his crown Tuesday night, beating Lawlor on a ninth-round TKO at the San Francisco Civic Auditorium."This was the lousiest fight I ever fought," Lawlor said. "I just couldn't hit him solid with anything. It was pointless. I hardly laid a glove on him. He outclassed me."
In a preliminary fight, former NFL star Mark Gastineau lost a five-round decision to Tim Anderson of Orlando, Fla. It was Gastineau's first loss in 10 fights since switching sports.
"I'm not going to give up," said Gastineau, the former New York Jets defensive end. "I'm not disappointed. I'm going to keep on fighting."
Jackson of Seattle used Lawlor as his personal punching bag throughout the bout, improving to 25-0 with 15 knockouts. Lawlor fell to 18-2.
