The new commercial center of Farmington at the U.S. 89 and Shepard Lane intersection appears headed for another expansion, with a fast food restaurant and tire store now under city review.
The city's planning commission has recommended approval of a plan submitted jointly by representatives of Arby's and Goodyear to develop the Kmart pad on the northwest corner of the intersection. The approval comes with stipulations on landscaping, traffic flow and a veneer on the two buildings of decorative rock, similar to the required on the Kmart and Foxglove Center stores across the highway.
Farmington City Planning Administrator Craig Hinckley said because the corner is part of the city's designated redevelopment area, the plans will also have to come to the RDA board - the City Council - for further review and approval.
Both the Arby's and Goodyear representatives told the planning commission that because of restricted size of the building pad and other considerations, their proposed stores are smaller than the usual ones being built.
