Two new directors have been named to Deseret Book's board, Chairman Marvin J. Ashton has announced.

Janette C. Hales, Young Women general president, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and Ronald A. Stone, executive vice president and creative director of EvansGroup's, a Salt Lake advertising and public relations agency, were named to the board.They join Chairman Ashton, Vice Chairman M. Russell Ballard, Elaine L. Jack, Grethe B. Peterson, Ronald A. Millett, Lowell M. Durham Jr., Thomas T. Mabey and Robert M. Graham on the Deseret Book board.

President Hales served as second counselor to Young Women general president Ardeth G. Kapp prior to being called in April to

head the organization. Earlier, she served on the Primary general board and in other church callings.

A native of Springville, she is a graduate of Brigham Young University and served in the Utah Legislature and as a member of the Utah County Medical Auxiliary.

A native of Lehi, Stone graduated from the University of Utah in 1966. He joined the Evans Salt Lake agency in 1974. He is president of the American Indian College Fund, a philanthropic organization devoted to assisting in the education of young American Indians.

Now in its 127th year, Deseret Book operates 26 stores in six Western states. Its book club and catalog mail-order divisions operate world-wide.
