Karl "The Mailman" Malone leans against his custom-painted semitrailer truck Wednesday before hitting the road in his first foray as an interstate trucker. Malone, the All-Star forward with the Utah Jazz, says that as a child he wanted to be a trucker long before he thought about playing pro basketball. "This is it," Malone - who hopes to one day own a fleet of 18-wheelers - told the Associated Press. "This is what I wanted to do. This is what I'll do when I retire." The Mailman's first trip will take him north on I-15 from Salt Lake City to Malad, Idaho, to take formal possession of the truck. From there it's on to Idaho Falls to pick up a load of spuds to bring back to Salt Lake City. Although the Summer Olympics - which begin later this month in Barcelona, Spain - will cut his trucking season short, Malone has a few trips planned. His one-man trucking firm already has a contract with Smith's Food King and is working out a deal with Nissan.
