A 15-year-old boy was arrested Thursday in the shooting of a kindergartner who was critically wounded when his school bus was caught in a gun battle between two gangs.

The teenager was charged with first-degree assault, criminal attempt to assault and reckless endangerment after his arrest around 2:30 a.m., said Sgt. Everett Nichols. Because he is a juvenile, his name was not released. He was being held at a juvenile center, Everett said.

The bus, carrying seven kindergarten students, was traveling through the high-crime Hill section Wednesday when gunfire shattered the rear window and pierced a right window of the bus. One bullet struck Cesar Sandoval, 6, in the head.
