A man accused of shooting his roommate along the banks of the Provo River has been charged with attempted homicide.

Lyle Murray, 19, appeared before 4th Circuit Judge Lynn Davis Tuesday on the second-degree felony charge. In addition, prosecutors filed charges of possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, both class B misdemeanors.Deputy County Attorney Sherry Ragan said a preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 22.

Murray is accused in Monday's shooting of Rodney James, 18, who was wounded in the cheek and ear.

James managed to walk two blocks to a business before he collapsed. He was taken Utah Valley Regional Medical Center. A nursing supervisor said James was in stable condition Tuesday.

Murray was arrested as he walked back to his apartment and is being held in the Utah County Jail on a $50,000 cash bond.

Both men are students at Utah Valley Community College.

Provo Police Capt. Duane Fraser said James was shot with a .25-caliber handgun about 1 a.m. Monday.
