Individuals and organizations received Lifesaver awards Wednesday evening from the Salt Lake Area Chapter of the American Red Cross.

At a dinner and ceremony at the Triad Center ice rink, Delta Air Lines was presented a Community Service award for "improving the quality of life in our community through financial support and voluntarism."In the same category, Utah Jazz star Mark Eaton was honored as a "distinguished citizen contributing time and money to worthy community causes," while the Junior League was recognized as a nonprofit agency that has provided "significant public service to the community at large."

Jack Schiefer, AT&T's Rocky Mountain states general sales manager, and Maj. Russell Fritz of the Salvation Army were honored with Unsung Hero awards within an organization for providing "unique service and leadership to the community." Schiefer was selected from among nominees in corporations, and Fritz from among nonprofit agencies.

Samaritan awards were presented to Pamela Atkinson, Andrea Pinnock and Jake Hansen for "providing compassionate service to an individual or the community at large."

A Heroic Act award was presented to Dave Gulini for "unselfishly saving the life of another." A ski lift operator at Snowbird, Gulini saved the life last March 17 of a 6-year-old Connecticut boy who was hanging from a ski lift.
