A group of inmates at the Salt Lake County Jail have filed a federal class-action suit against county law enforcement officials for denying them access to a law library and legal materials.

The lawsuit accuses the county of violating the inmates' constitutional rights of access to the courts. The inmates are seeking injunctions allowing them access to legal materials, a judgment declaring their constitutional rights had been violated, $5,000 in monetary damages and an undetermined amount of punitive damages.Plaintiff in the suit, Nick Pagoulatos, was denied access to a law library although county policy allows such access for inmates who don't have attorneys, the suit said.
