A new seven-member board has been appointed to manage the Heber Valley Historical Railroad.

The members of the Heber Valley Railroad Authority include Wasatch County Commission Chairman Moroni Besendorfer, Utah County Commissioner Gary Herbert, Heber City Mayor Scott Wright, Midway Mayor Reed Bezzant, Ken McConnell and Eugene Finlayson, director of the Utah Department of Transportation.The announcement came from Gov. Norm Bangerter.

The board will administer $1 million appropriated by the Legislature as startup funds for the railroad.

Track rehabilitation is expected to begin this month, using $400,000 in additional state funds and ties that have already been stockpiled.

The train is expected to be in operation by next spring.
