Six police officers admitted lying about the shooting of an unarmed 17-year-old joy rider, and at least one admitted firing at the teenager, a lawyer says.

"The officers had admitted there was some wrongdoing," Anthony Pope, a lawyer for one, said Thursday night at a news conference. "They admitted they were guilt-ridden by this. There was panic. There was overreaction. There was flight."Pope and other lawyers denied witnesses' claims that police ambushed the teenager Tuesday. The officers did not appear at the news conference.

Howard Caesar, suspected of stealing a car belonging to Officer Dino D'Elia's mother, remained in critical condition Friday on life support at University Hospital, with a bullet in his right abdomen.

The six officers' guns were confiscated earlier this week, and they were placed on administrative duty.
