Commissioner Fay Vincent responded to an attempt to strip him of authority in labor relations by admonishing owners to stop their "discord and bickering and relatively undistinguished behavior."

In a speech to owners, Vincent tried to heal wounds opened by an attempted power grab last week by American League members of the Player Relations Committee. PRC chairman Bud Selig of the Milwaukee Brewers and Chicago White Sox owner Jerry Reinsdorf asked Vincent last Thursday in Chicago to relinquish the commissioner's authority in labor matters.
