The German automotive group BMW has tentatively decided to build a $635 million car plant near Greenville, S.C., which would be its first such complex in the United States or outside Germany, a newspaper report said Saturday.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution quoted state officials in South Carolina and Georgia as saying they received confirmation that a site near Greenville was chosen for the project expected eventually to employ 2,000 workers.The project is expected to generate billions of dollars in added business for parts suppliers.
