German Chancellor Helmut Kohl said Saturday that he and Chilean President Patricio Aylwin had discussed the timing of a return to Germany of former communist leader Erich Honecker.
Honecker, spirited out of eastern Germany to Moscow last year, is wanted on charges relating to the deaths of people who fled over the Berlin Wall to the West during the Cold War.He took refuge in Chile's embassy after Russian authorities said he would be handed over to Germany.
Kohl, in an interview with German television, said he and Aylwin talked about Honecker at the Earth Summit and both agreed they must decide soon what to do with the former East German leader.
