A third former top aide to former President Carter has broken with the Democratic Party to assist Texas billionaire Ross Perot, it was reported Saturday.
Gerald Rafshoon - media adviser to Carter during his campaign for the presidency and while he was in the White House - told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution he has advised Perot on media strategy but does not plan to join the campaign full-time.Former Carter chief of staff Hamilton Jordan this month become chief strategist and co-chairman of Perot's campaign, and former Carter deputy budget director John White is working as a Perot campaign issues director.
Rafshoon, a movie and television producer, said he is helping Perot because "the Democratic Party is devoid of any desire for real change" while the Texas tycoon is "a can-do guy who won't be sidetracked by special interests."
The former Carter media strategist calls Bill Clinton "a good man . . . but he's caught by the Democratic Party apparatus that will only nibble away at the problems."
