Strong winds and lightning caused power outages in portions of Cache County Friday night as a violent wind storm swept through northern Utah.

Rick Lungman, manager of the Utah Power office in Smithfield, said severe winds shortly before 8 p.m. knocked out a major line in Nibley, causing outages in several southwestern Cache communities.Power had been partially restored late Friday night, and it took repair crews until Saturday afternoon before full power was restored.

Outages occurred in the Wellsville and Mendon areas, and a Utah Power pump house in Amalga took a direct lightning hit, causing outages in northern sections of the county, mainly Hyde Park and Benson.
