The world's oldest flag design belongs to Denmark.

The flag, a large white cross on a red field, has been a national emblem since the 13th century.According to legend, the Danish flag dates back to the time of King Valdemar II, who used a red banner with a white cross as his battle flag during crusades against pagans.

The flag was called Dannebrog, literally meaning Danes' Cloth.
