Slavic delicacies, ethnic arts and crafts and polka dancing under the stars - you'll find them all at Utah-Slavia '92, the 10th annual Slavic festival, sponsored by the Zivio Ethnic Arts Ensemble.
The festival will be at the historic Old Mill, 6900 Big Cottonwood Canyon Road, just off Exit 6 on I-215, Friday and Saturday, June 19-20. It opens Friday at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 5 p.m. Admission is $3, or $2 for children and senior citizens.Zivio will perform dances of Yugoslavia and Bulgaria in full costume, with live music from their tamburitza and bitov bands. The Zivio choir, Pjevaci, will sing Balkan songs in original languages and style.
Guest artists include the Narodna International Dancers, the Rocky Mountain Polka Express and Dunav, a tamburitza band from the San Francisco Bay area, paying its fourth visit to Utah-Slavia.
Slavic foods such as stuffed cabbage, barbecued lamb and pork, pirogi, pastries and Turkish coffee will be featured in food booths, and arts and crafts of southeastern Europe will be on display and for sale.
Supported by a grant from the Utah Arts Council, Utah-Slavia celebrates the heritage of Utah residents with ancestry in the Slavic countries.
