A handful of downtown Roosevelt businesses were the targets of vandals recently. In the latest incident, vandals were armed with spray paint, rather than with guns as in an earlier shooting spree that left more than 20 downtown merchants with shattered store front windows.
Turner Lumber, Roosevelt Variety, the post office and the side of the Frontier Motel Office were all littered with graffiti, bearing slogans that Police Chief Cecil Gurr said ranged from obscenities to anti-police messages and hate words. Several federal vehicles at the post office also had spray paint over the word "authorized" on their doors.Gurr said vandals used black and brown spray paint, which will be costly to remove. "The brick and cement will have to be sandblasted to get rid of the paint. In some cases paint will have to be applied," he said.
