Four counts of aggravated murder were filed Tuesday against Sam George Kastanis, accused in the November deaths of his wife and three children.
Kastanis, 43, was arrested at 9 a.m. at his attorney's office. He will be held without bail until he can be arraigned on the charges, according to court documents. An arraignment has been set for Wednesday, according to Salt Lake County Attorney David Yocom. Each charge carries a possible death penalty.
On Nov. 17, Kastanis called 911 and said his son had cut his finger. When firefighters arrived at his West Jordan home they found his wife, Margaret, and three children - Kristy, 6; Melissa, 11; and Clint, 9 - had been beaten and slashed to death. A knife and hammer were found next to one of the victims, according to a booking document.
Kastanis was jailed briefly after the killings but has been free since then pending a lengthy investigation.
