For about 100 million Americans, falling asleep can be a major problem. To help those troubled by insomnia and similar disorders, the sleep research experts at Sealy, Inc., offer these tips:

- Set a regular sleep-wake schedule, retiring and getting up each day at the same time. Don't take daytime naps.- Eat well ahead of bedtime. Avoid caffeine after 4 p.m., limit alcohol intake and don't smoke. Relax with herbal tea.

- Be comfortable in bed. Mattress should be neither too hard nor too soft and designed to meet support standards set by orthopedic surgeons.

- Feet cold? Wear socks.
