A car bomb exploded in Lima, Peru, early Tuesday morning causing light damage but no injuries, TV stations reported. It was the first car bomb explosion since authorities passed an emergency law aimed at preventing such devices.

Unlike many of the previous bombings attributed to the Maoist Shining Path guerrillas, no military, police or communications installation was targeted. Tuesday's bomb went off outside a housing complex in the La Victoria area.
