American Lung Association of Utah officials remind parents that there is still time to register their kids for Camp Superkids.
From July 13 to 16, 8- to 12-year-old asthmatic youngsters will enjoy the traditional activities of summer camp: hiking, swimming, campfire storytelling and dabbling in arts and crafts activities. At the same time, the youngsters will receive asthma education and learn cooperative care management skills.According to camp organizers, the point of the activity is to let the kids have fun and learn about asthma, including how it affects them and how to make basic decisionmaking skills. Also, for the first time, parents will spend a day with the campers and learning about the condition.
The camp, which is located at Snowbird, will be staffed by physicians, who provide 24-hour, every-day medical care, and trained volunteers who come from medical, health or other disciplines. The latter group will serve as counselors for the campers.
