Country crooner k.d. lang has canceled a June 19 performance in Canadian farm country because beef farmers are threatening a protest over her vegetarian views. lang, a native of Canada's cattle country who reportedly has a pet cow, angered ranchers two years ago when she appeared in anti-meat television ads produced for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, the largest animal rights organization in the United States. She canceled her upcoming appearance in Owen Sound, Ontario, after learning ranchers planned to use trucks and other equipment to block the parking lot and surrounding roads of the concert hall she was scheduled to play. Only 1,000 tickets were sold for the hall, which holds more than 4,000 people.
