The Flying J oil refinery in North Salt Lake is trying to reduce air pollution with the construction of a plant that will remove sulfur from diesel fuel and new controls on the plant's own sulfur pollution.
The desulfurization wing will be capable of removing that pollutant from 7,000 barrels per day, material that otherwise would be belched into the atmosphere when trucks burn diesel fuel."The new facilities are being constructed to comply with new federal low-sulfur diesel fuel requirements and new state air quality regulations," said Jeff Utley, manager of the refinery.
Utley said the projects represent the commitment of Flying J to improve the region's air quality and to provide the cleanest-burning fuel possible.
