Twenty-one Weber State University faculty members will receive some $40,000 in grants from the Hemingway Faculty Development Trust to fund 16 educational projects.
The grants and their recipients are:- $7,544 to Margaret O. Bennett, professor of business education and administrative systems, and Donaldine E. Samson, associate professor of computer information systems.
- $708 to Danny Vaughan, associate professor of geography.
- $6,002 to business professors W. Bruce Handley, Brian Davis and H. Lon Addams.
- $4,160 to Kerry N. Tobin, assistant professor of manufacturing engineering technology
- $3,252 to Patti O'Neal, visiting lecturer in performing arts
- $2,600 to Stephen L. Clark, professor of botany
- $2,500 to Judith P. Mitchell, associate professor of elementary education
- $2,375 to Raj Kumar, associate professor of communications
- $2,117 to Wangari Waigwa-Stone, assistant professor of foreign languages
- $1,893 to John S. Thaler, associate professor of mathematics; Robert J. Twiggs, professor of electronics; and Wayne L. Wahl-quist, professor of geography
- $1,646 to Nancy Haanstad, professor of political science
- $1,400 to Richard M. Alston, professor of economics
- $1,200 to L. Kay Gillespie, professor of sociology
- $1,200 to Mohammad Son-dos-si, associate professor of microbiology
- $1,081 to Diana P. Grueninger, performing arts instructor
- $770 to Craig J. Oberg, professor of microbiology
The funding comes from interest income on a $1 million endowment given to Weber State by the Hemingway family of Ogden in 1988.
Projects to receive funding were selected by a 14-member committee composed of Weber State faculty and staff.
