The premiere issue of Weber State University's alumni magazine has earned recognition from Editor's Workshop newsletter as one of 10 outstanding organizational publications.
The University Times was praised as one of America's best alumni magazines by Ed Arnold, an editorial consultant and publications analyst. The magazine topped the semiannual list of "Arnold's Admirables" in the May 1992 issue of the newsletter published by Lawrence Ragan Communications Inc. of Chicago.Arnold praised the magazine's "fresh, appealing" handling of wide-ranging topics. He also said University Times features diverse design and high photographic quality.
Each year, Arnold issues two lists of 10 publications each that he considers standouts based on their mix of topics, the quality of visual presentation and the skill of writers and editors.
University Times was conceived and edited by Ronald D. Cantera, Weber State's director of public communications, and Craig V. Nelson, the university's publications coordinator. It was designed by Richards & Swensen of Salt Lake City and printed by Watkins Printing of Providence. John Shupe of Ogden provided photography.
The magazine's first issue was sent to 38,000 Weber State alumni, donors, faculty and staff last fall. Succeeding issues are scheduled for publication this fall and in spring of 1993.
