Last October, an earthquake that reached a magnitude of 7.0 on the Richter scale hit a large area of the Himalayan mountain range in northern India, killing about 2,000 people in their sleep and injuring some 1,800.

After visiting the area, Bountiful resident Paul Harvey Hackney established the Himalayan Earthquake Assistance Program (HEAP) Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to help the earthquake survivors rebuild some of the 18,000 homes that were reported destroyed.Hackney will give an audio visual presentation on the indigenous people and their region Friday, June 26, at 7:30 p.m. at Clayton Intermediate School, 1471 S. 1800 East, Salt Lake City. A modest admission and donations will benefit the earthquake survivors.
