Russia will print up to 1 billion rubles during the third quarter of this year to help the country's dire cash shortage, a news agency reported Thursday.

Alexander Zinchenko, the manager of Russia's Central Bank, told a legislative session Wednesday that the cash crisis would end in August when 5,000-ruble banknotes would be put into circulation, Interfax said.A cash shortage has been one of the most serious problems plaguing the Russian government since President Boris Yeltsin freed prices in January as part of his ambitious market reform program. Some prices have soared more than 700 percent.
