Jon Huntsman Jr. has been picked by President Bush to be the new ambassador to the city-state of Singapore. Huntsman must be confirmed by the U.S. Senate, but that is expected soon.
Huntsman, 32, is the oldest son of Utah industrialist Jon Huntsman. While young to be an ambassador, Huntsman Jr. has had a wide range of experience, including serving Bush as assistant secretary of commerce for Asian affairs.Huntsman Jr. returned to Utah last year, assuming the post of senior vice president of the family firm, Huntsman Chemical - the largest privately held chemical company in the United States.
Huntsman Jr. was considering running for the U.S. Senate or U.S. House this year. But he decided not to enter either race. Instead, he was named co-chairman of the Bush-Quayle fund-raising effort in Utah.
