A Sevier County man was appointed to a committee to advise on appropriate ways to determine fair market value on the use of public lands by radio and television broadcast companies.
Kent Parsons, of Monroe, was appointed by Secretary of the Interior Manuel Lujan and Secretary of Agriculture Edward Madigan. The eleven-member advisory panel, whose members represent various parties affected by or responsible for federal rental fees, will advise on placement of broadcast antennae on lands managed by the Interior Department's Bureau of Land Management and the Agriculture Department's Forest Service."The recommendations of this committee will help us develop a free structure which reflects the fair market value for the use of the property," Madigan said.
The committee will also examine whether federal rental fees should be waived or reduced for broadcaster who serve the public interest, as required for licensing under the Federal Communications Act of 1934.
