Dan Devine is returning to Missouri as athletic director, and school officials are counting on him to revive a program embroiled in turmoil.
"We fully expect that he will take the athletic department, in this year, to new heights," interim chancellor Gerald Brouder said Wednesday in announcing Devine's one-year, $90,000 contract effective Aug. 1.Devine, 67, was one of the school's most successful coaches and led the Tigers to some of their best seasons, including bowl victories in 1960, 1962, 1965 and 1968.

He coached from 1958 to 1970, compiling a 93-37-7 record, and was athletic director from 1967 to 1970.
