Michael Jordan will be a part of the Park City Handicapped Sports Association annual "Swing Into Summer" event - not in person, however, but with an autographed jersey.

The jersey and two autographed basketballs will be part of the groups' annual banquet and fund raiser Friday at the Yarrow Hotel in Park City. Tickets are $40 and can be obtained by calling 649-3991. All proceeds go to support the groups summer sports program for handicapped individuals.Part of the event will be a golf tournament on Friday at Park Meadows Golf Club and tennis on Saturday at the Park City Racquet Club.

WALKS AND TALKS - The U.S. Forest Service has begun its annual "Wasatch Walks and Talks" program.

Through August, rangers will hold interpretive programs on the environment, ecology and wildlife, and will conduct special hikes into wilderness areas.

The program begins today with a program at the Spruces Campground entitled "Alphabet Soup - Our Environment From A-Z," at 7 p.m. The "Alphabet" program will also be held on June 25. Other programs include the "Wildfire and Smokey Bear" at 7 p.m. on Fridays at the Spruces, "Plants - The Wild Department Store," on Saturdays at 10:30 a.m. at Boxelder Picnic Area, "Ecology of a Mountain Stream," on Saturdays at 2 p.m. at Boxelder Picnic Area; and a hike called "Wandering the Wasatch," on Sundays at 10:30 a.m. from the Spruces.

Similar programs are scheduled in July and August.

NEW SKI LIFT - Brighton Ski Resort has received approval from the U.S. Forest Service to build a second high-speed detachable chairlift. The lift will be ready for use this winter.

The new lift is 6,730 feet long, will rise 1,745 vertical feet and will carry 2,400 skiers per hour. According to resort manager Randy Doyle, the lift will access more than 200 acres of terrain, with 10 newly designated runs.

The lift will cost about $2 million.

NO FISHING - An area known to fishermen on the Strawberry as the "ladders" or "stairs," has been close to fishing until further notice. The closure was necessary to protect spawning cutthroat.

The fish have been congregating in the areas and were extremely vulnerable to fishermen. Some illegal snagging of trout had been reported.

Biologist are encouraged by the fact that the Bear Lake cutthroat stocked two years ago after treatment of the reservoir have already started to spawn. Normally, cutthroat won't begin to spawn for three to four years after being planted.

CAMPGROUNDS CLOSED - The Green River Lakes Campground on the Pinedale Ranger District of the Bridger-Teton National Forest, has been closed for construction. The campground is scheduled to reopen in July of 1993.

The trailhead and parking area will remain open, but there will be no corrals. When completed the area will have 15 new campsites, three new group sites, two new vault toilets and an improved water system. New trailhead facilities will also be built.

NO MORE COWS - Through an agreement between the Lyman family and the National Park Service, cattle will be taken off 54,825 acres within Glen Canyon National Recreation Area.

Arthur and Ivan Lyman of Boulder, Utah, have relinquished grazing rights to the land. As a result there will be no more cattle in the area, which will eliminate user conflicts and enhance recreational opportunities for hikers and other park visitors. This will also help protect water quality, wetlands and streamside habitat, and expand interagency research opportunities and archeological resource protection in the area.
