To the editor:
I am a delegate to the Republican State Convention, and for the past six months, I have been a volunteer for Ted Stewart, a candidate for the U.S. Senate. This has given me the opportunity to travel with him on several occasions and to listen to him and the other candidates speak.Time and again, I have heard other delegates say the same thing: "Ted, you would definitely be the best person to represent us in the Senate, but you don't have enough money to win." They are wrong.
Whomever we choose on June 27 will have ample funding from local and national sources to beat the Democratic candidate. Where are we as a Republican Party if we do not have enough faith in our issues and principles that we must rely on money to defeat the Democrat?
The reason for the 1990 disaster in the 3rd district was not party infighting, but that we did not properly scrutinize the candidates prior to convention. We nominated two fatally flawed candidates. Now is the time to examine with a fine-tooth comb the electability of each Republican candidate. I say Ted is the most electable candidate because he has the cleanest record, the best grasp on the issues, a true conviction to Republican values and his solutions are based therein.
