Here's the premise for the new Fox sitcom "Down the Shore," which premieres Sunday at 8:30 p.m. on Ch. 13:
Three guys and three gals share a beach house down on the Jersey shore, where they talk a lot about sex and sometimes even participate in the activity.Need to know any more?
Actually, it's not quite as tasteless and vulgar as you might expect. (It is airing after "Married . . . With Children," after all.)
But it is rather stupid and tasteless nonetheless.
The three women include a Arden (Anna Gunn), beautiful ice queen; Miranda (Pamela Segall), an obnoxious left-wing artist; and Donna (Cathryn de Prume), a sweet but brainless airhead.
As for the men, Aldo (Louis Mandylor) is sexually obsessed.
About the only surprise is that one of the men doesn't exactly fit into the classic "hunk" mold. Eddie (Tom McGowan) is an overweight nerd. But, you'll no doubt be thrilled to learn, he loses his virginity tonight.
This show isn't any more offensive than several other Fox shows. As a matter of fact, it's less offensive than some. (But that's a whole 'nother story.)
Unfortunately, it's no better written or produced than many other low-budget sitcoms. It's not very funny, and it's very predictable.
The good new is, it's just a summer tryout series. And, with any luck at all, it won't survive into autumn. - Scott D. Pierce
