To the editor:
As the Republican Utah state convention draws closer, candidates are scurrying around trying to meet delegates and gain support for their campaigns. As a delegate, I have been bombarded daily with literature from each and every candidate.I am learning a lot about the candidates. I even get pictures of their families. But I have been looking more for their stands on the issues rather than how they look standing behind their families. There is one exception to this rule however: Enid Greene.
Enid is the only candidate who has told me where she stood on the issues from the very beginning. I have learned that she has a 10-point ethics pledge that includes giving the $40,000 pay raise that Congress gave itself back to the people of Salt Lake City through charities.
She has also outlined a seven-point deficit reduction plan, six-point spending cuts plan and three-point stimulating growth plan. She has also sent a pamphlet titled, oddly enough, "Issues." Enid Greene is the only one focusing on reform and changing the status quo that exists in Washington today.
All the candidates look capable and have cute kids, but I would like to learn more specifics about what they plan to do once in office. In the coming weeks and months, let's stop seeing who they are and find out what they are about.
