A federal judge today ordered that Butch Reynolds be allowed to run in the Olympic trials in New Orleans this weekend, and track's international governing body renewed its warning that those who compete against him could be barred from the Olympics.
The ruling by U.S. District Judge Joseph Kinneary was yet another victory for Reynolds in his legal battle to beat a suspension over steroid use.Kinneary also issued an order preventing appeals in the case in the next 10 days.
The International Amateur Athletic Federation said the ruling could cause chaos, and again said it could result in the U.S. being unable to compete in the 400-meters at the Barcelona Games.
The IAAF has vowed to keep Reynolds out of the Games.
Kinneary scolded the IAAF for trying "to hold the entire American Olympic team hostage against an unfavorable decision from this court."
