A Roosevelt boy was killed in a fall in the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area earlier this week, according to the National Park Service.
Andrew David Holmes, 14, fell about 50 feet while hiking with a friend Tuesday in the Rincon area of Glen Canyon. The boys had climbed to the top of Rincon Mesa and were returning to family and friends on a houseboat on Lake Powell when Holmes lost his footing while descending through a narrow chute in the rock, according to NPS spokeswoman Charlotte Obergh.
The other boy, identified as Mike Bingham, also 14, attempted mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and then went for help. Holmes' aunt, a pediatrician, and his grandfather, a Utah Highway Patrol trooper, returned to the scene and attempted to revive the boy, Obergh said.
His aunt pronounced him dead at the scene, the ranger said.
