Now you can shop till your airplane drops. Northwest is introducing individual touch-sensitive screens that let passengers make credit card purchases from their seats. For sale are typical airline duty-free items: crystal, china, art work and clothing, plane tickets and hotel reservations. At no charge, passengers using this interactive communications system called WorldLink have a choice of video, TV, news, sports and shopping as well as video games, gate and other consumer information. Screens are being installed on arm rests in first- and business class and all seatbacks in coach; they "read" credit cards and arrange shipment. The first equipped plane debuts this fall.
