Orla M. Shaw, 75, died June 22, 1992.
Born May 15, 1917 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Fred J. and Florence Johnson Donkin. Married Bert Shaw June 1, 1936; divorced 1969. Graduated from University of Utah in 1938 with honors. Received her MSW Degree from the U of U, Phi Kappa Phi, 1953.She was one of the initial developers and early pioneers of the Mental Health System in the state of Utah from 1961 to 1982. She studied in Hampstead Clinic, England, 1971-1973. Named Social Worker of the Year in 1982 by the N.A.S.W., Utah Chapter. In the same year she was honored by Salt Lake County Mental Health and cited as The First Lady of Mental Health. She was nominated by the Graduate School of Social Work for the Norman S. Anderson Award, which she received Nov. 1991.
Survivors: Daughter, Judith A. Petersen, Salt Lake City; and Michael Greer (who was like a son-in-law); two grandchildren, Kelly Petersen and Cory (and wife Corri) Petersen; two great-grandchildren, Scott and Tysha Petersen; brother, Fred J Donkin and wife Jan. Preceded in death by a son, Thomas Bert Shaw.
She was loved by many as a teacher and a healer.
Funeral services will be held Thursday,
12 noon, in the Wasatch Lawn Mortuary Chapel, 3401 So. Highland Dr., where friends may call Wednesday 6-8 p.m. and Thursday one hour prior to services.
Interment, Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
