Firefighters battle strong winds in an effort to control a blaze near 5400 West and 700 South that was sparked by a passing train. Sixty firefighters from several departments battled the fire, which claimed a barn and a few sheds. The blaze was just one of many throughout the valley Monday. Brush fires burned simultaneously in Salt Lake City, West Valley City, Murray, Riverton and in areas of unincorporated Salt Lake County. Officials fear the outbreaks are a harbinger of more fires. Because fire danger is so high right now and drought has left the land so vulnerable, Salt Lake County fire officials hope to reduce fires by imposing the county's strictest-ever fire regulations. They hope that restricting campfires and fireworks will prevent some of the problems. The restrictions go into effect Wednesday. There may be a complete ban on campfires in the three canyons.
