SHARE 125 GENEVA LAYOFFS BLAMED ON RECESSION

Geneva Steel announced Thursday it will lay off approximately 125 employees at the end of the week.

The company blamed a continuing recession and depressed steel prices for the employee cuts. Geneva also will restrict overtime and redistribute work assignments to save money, company officials said.Geneva employed approximately 2,700 people prior to the reductions in force.

The layoffs will occur throughout the plant, according to Dennis Wanlass, chief financial officer.
