A 70-year-old Pittstown, N.J., man was in stable condition at the Lake Hospital Wednesday after being gored by a large male bison.

Park Superintendent Bob Barbee said Charles Hoagland was gored in the back of the upper right thigh on Tuesday morning in the West Thumb area.He said the buffalo had been in the area throughout the winter and had "displayed extremely aggressive behavior."

"Therefore, the bison was destroyed by park rangers in order to avoid further potential injury to visitors," Barbee said.
