A Utah State Prison inmate whose murder conviction was overturned by a 3rd District judge will be released from prison June 23.

The Board of Pardons granted the parole date for Dail Ray Stewart, who was serving time for burglary when he was charged with fatally stabbing inmate Glen Evert on Feb. 14, 1984. He received an additional one-to-15-year sentence for second-degree murder. However, earlier this year, one trial witness changed his testimony and a new witness was discovered, prompting Judge Kenneth Rigtrup to grant Stewart a new trial. Prosecutors have decided not to re-prosecute the case.
