"Jubilation" will be the theme for this week's activities during the 22nd Annual Art City Days Celebration.
From now through Saturday night Springville residents will share their talents in many of the contests and shows. Tournaments will be held for those who enjoy athletic competition and the celebration has plenty to offer spectators."Art City Days is a time for people to associate with their neighbors, get to know each other and to enjoy themselves," Chairman Gary Peay said.
More than 200 volunteers helped in organizing this year's activities. For the competitive person there will be a tennis tournament, a 5K road race, the Hersey track meet and the Little Buckaroo Rodeo. For both competitors and spectators, there will be a photography show, a flower show, the state quilt show and a baby contest.
For those who enjoy the talents of others, there will be an antique car show, a heritage home tour, several concerts and two plays. New to this year's celebration will be a concert by the 23rd Army Band of the Utah National Guard.
"The biggest night of celebrating will be Friday with the band concert and barbecue," Peay said. "We expect a good crowd to be there joining in the fun."
On Thursday, Friday and Saturday mornings, the volunteer firemen will sponsor a breakfast on the lawn of the Civic Center. Also the City of Fun Carnival will be operating on the Civic Center lawn from Wednesday through Saturday.
Lifetime Springville residents Edward and Vesta Boyer are Grand Marshals for this year's celebration. Peay said the Boyers represent the qualities that make Springville a great place to live - voluntarism and community service.
Besides serving a four-year term on the Springville City Council, Edward Boyer has been active in scouting and has served on the boards of several local farming organizations. Vesta Boyer was active in the local PTA and served as president of the Utah County Farm Bureau Women's Committee.
Together the Boyers were instrumental in organizing the Springville Historical Society and have worked with the Springville Chamber of Commerce for many years.
The Boyers will be honored Saturday morning during the Grand Parade, which will proceed down 400 South and Main Street. The week's activities will culminate with a fireworks show Saturday night at the Springville High School football field.
A complete schedule of the week's activities was included in utility bills mailed to residents last week. For more information on Art City Days activities, call the Springville City offices at 489-2701.
