A veteran deputy sheriff pleaded not guilty Monday to a charge that he rolled back the odometer of a Jeep he sold to a Park City man.
Lawrence C. Taylor Jr., who has worked for the Salt Lake County sheriff's office for 18 years, emphatically said, "I am not guilty," when asked to enter his plea before 3rd District Judge Kenneth Rigtrup.Rigtrup set a trial date for June 23.
Investigators allege that Taylor sold his 1987 Jeep in October and allegedly told the buyer that the 39,816 miles on the odometer were actual miles. Taylor apparently had signed a document a year earlier stating the vehicle actually had 90,352 miles.
