Right-wing extremists hurled beer bottles and firecrackers at about 200 politicians and leftists who formed a human cordon to protect a hostel for asylum-seekers in eastern Germany after three nights of attacks, police said Friday.

Officials said 47 of the 81 asylum-seekers from Romania, Armenia and former Yugoslavia had left the hostel in Quedlinburg, apparently fearing further attacks from right-wingers who had hurled gasoline bombs and stones at the building for three consecutive nights.
