Christmas shopping in September may be considered aggressive by some, but for others, it is clearly good management.
The Salt Lake Junior League annually manages to collect a group of one-of-a-kind merchants who display their holiday gift wares in behalf of the league and the community at large." 'Tis the Season," the 1992 Holiday Mart, kicks off the shopping season at the Salt Palace Exhibition Center North Lobby on Wednesday, Sept. 23, at 5 p.m. Shopping hours continue Thursday, Sept. 24, and Friday, Sept. 25, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. On Saturday, Sept. 26, shopping is available from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Admission is $3 and is available at the door.
Proceeds from the Holiday Mart will benefit the Salt Lake Junior League's community projects, which include an environmental education summit, the Children's Assistance and Resource Event, the Children's Justice Center and the Boardwalk, a training seminar for volunteers in other nonprofit organizations. Over the past six years, the Holiday Mart benefit has raised more than $275,000 toward a variety of community projects.
The highlight of the mart is the Pleasant Company American Girls Doll Collection fashion shows. The shows will be held Thursday, Sept. 24, at 4:30 p.m. and Friday, Sept. 25, at 4 p.m. Mothers, daughters, grandmothers, aunts, nieces and cousins will be treated to tea and a fashion show featuring the various dolls and their wardrobes.
