AT LEAST 43 ARE KILLED IN CLASHES IN TURKEY

At least 43 people were killed in the latest clashes between security forces and Kurdish separatist guerrillas in southeastern Turkey, officials said Monday.

The heaviest clash occurred Sunday at Semdinli, about 700 miles southeast of Ankara, when a group of rebels affiliated with the Kurdish Workers Party, or PKK, entered Turkey and attacked an outpost of the paramilitary rural police.The Turkish state radio said the rebels used rocket launchers, long-range rifles and mortars in the attack. A total of 11 security men and 30 rebels died in the fighting, officials said.
