Employees at the Copperton concentrator have been presented Kennecott Corp.'s first President's Safety Award for individual and team efforts in achieving the best overall safety record at all KCC properties during 1991.
Kennecott's safety record is 75 percent better than the national average and one of the best in the industry, company officials say.Created by artist John Mortensen, the award is a bronze statue depicting a Kennecott employee and family. Mortensen and representatives from the federal Mine Safety and Health Administration were among some 400 guests invited to the awards presentation ceremony.
Frank Joklik, Kennecott president and chief executive officer, presented the award. Lunch and a tour of the concentrator followed.
